Chapter 12: Everyone Knows

Silence and darkness enveloped the surroundings, saturated with eerie stillness.

A dark figure suddenly drew close, emitting a sinister chuckle.

It lacked limbs, having only a body the size of a human head, floating in the air. Its deep-red eyes fixed on the girl in white, much like a predator staring at its prey.

In the next instant, the limbless body suddenly extended hands with just two fingers each toward the girl's heart.

The hands penetrated through the girl's body, hollowing her out.

The dark figure widened its eyes in disbelief.

The girl lifted her head, and a face with no features slowly appeared on the screen...

"Tooth!"

The Fire Tooth Dog leaped into Qiao Sang's arms.

It didn't want to watch anymore!

Qiao Sang stroked its head gently, feeling a bit regretful...

...

...

The next two days happened to be the weekend. Qiao Sang declined Fang Sisi's proposal to go out and chose to study at home alone.

Aside from taking the time to go to the Beast Tamer Center and register her identity as a Beast Tamer and the Fire Tooth Dog's status, she spent almost all her remaining time buried in her books.

She wasn't sure whether it was due to her awakened brain domain, but her memory had improved significantly compared to her previous life. She could remember the content after reading a book just once.

It wasn't long before it was time to return to school.

"Fire Tooth Dog, be good. I'll let you out after school," Qiao Sang coaxed the Fire Tooth Dog.

Since the Fire Tooth Dog got bored with the game of going in and out of the Beast Tamer Handbook, it hadn't gone inside again.

This time, Qiao Sang wanted to let it go in, but it seemed somewhat resistant.

Compared to being in the handbook, it preferred to stay outside.

"Tooth."

The Fire Tooth Dog shook its head, indicating it didn't want to go in.

Qiao Sang was a bit helpless. The school didn't explicitly state that pets weren't allowed, but it would be too conspicuous to leave the Fire Tooth Dog outside when everyone else didn't have a contracted pet yet.

Qiao Sang didn't want to become the center of attention.

"If you come in, I'll buy you some Red Crystal Fruits to eat after school," Qiao Sang tempted.

The Fire Tooth Dog turned its head to the side with an air of arrogance.

It didn't want it.

A twitch appeared at the corner of Qiao Sang's mouth.

Her mother had bought six Red Crystal Fruits last time. She had given the Fire Tooth Dog four on the first day and one each for the following two days.

Was it really already tired of them?

"If you don't come in, I'll just have to leave on my own."

"I'll go in."

"I'm really leaving."

Qiao Sang squatted at the entrance, put on her shoes, and pretended to be ready to leave.

"Tooth!"

The Fire Tooth Dog lunged into Qiao Sang's arms, raising its moist eyes to gaze at her pitifully.

"If you want to come with me, you have to go in first. I promise to let you out as soon as school ends," Qiao Sang said.

"Tooth." The Fire Tooth Dog drooped its head and weakly agreed.

Qiao Sang's heart melted.

It was still a child after all.

Qingcheng Jiayuan was the district in which Wencheng middle School, just 9 kilometers away. It could be reached directly by taking bus No. 23, 36, 57, and metro lines 5 and 7.

Qiao Sang didn't take the subway this time, as usual.

On bus No. 36.

The Fire Tooth Dog stretched its head out of the window in Qiao Sang's arms, enjoying the wind that blew into its face and ruffled its fur.

It looked excitedly at the outside world.

"Wait until we get to school. You have to behave and come inside, alright?" Qiao Sang smiled.

"Tooth!"

The Fire Tooth Dog energetically responded.

Qiao Sang couldn't resist patting its head.

After getting off the bus, the Fire Tooth Dog obediently allowed Qiao Sang to put it into the Beast Tamer Handbook. It even wagged its tail happily.

...

...

Wencheng middle School, Class 37.

"Have you finished your homework? Let me copy it."

"Didn't you see me still copying it?"

"Did you watch the matches in the Lianbo District yesterday?"

"Of course! I've been waiting in front of the TV since 7 p.m. Lin Jinyang's Blood Azure Dragon was totally awesome!"

"Yeah, and that Scale-Eating Ant, it's gold-colored! I've never seen a gold-colored Scale-Eating Ant before! Almost blinded me!"

"..."

"I heard that Dai Shushu from Class Nine got a recommendation to go to Shengshui High School."

"Wasn't it mentioned last time that she got recommended to Litan Beast Taming High School?"

"It seems like the spot got rejected."

"No wonder it's the top high school in our province; Even Dai Shushu can't get in."

"You should get into Shengshui High School and show us."

"..."

A slender figure appeared at the classroom door.

As the figure walked in, the discussion suddenly quieted down.

Qiao Sang took her seat and noticed some classmates sneakily looking at her.

Feeling the inexplicable atmosphere in the classroom, Qiao Sang rubbed her nose and whispered to Fang Sisi, "Did you tell the class about my awakened brain domain?"

Fang Sisi was still busy copying her homework, and she only noticed Qiao Sang had arrived when someone spoke nearby.

"Big Thigh, you finally made it," Fang Sisi's eyes lit up as she leaned in, "Without your permission, how could I possibly say anything? Do you need me to promote it in the class for you?"

"Please don't." Qiao Sang quickly shook her head, then puzzled, she lowered her voice and asked, "Why is everyone staring at me?"

"Didn't your mom come to the school twice? And then you took a day off and skipped a day of class. Everyone's speculating if something happened to you." Fang Sisi explained.

Qiao Sang was taken aback. "I skipped a day of class?"

"Yeah."

Although she had suspected that her mother might have forgotten to ask for leave, it was still disheartening to realize it was true.

Could it be that the old teacher wanted to scold her again in the office...?

Then Fang Sisi continued, "Also, everyone knows that you're the one who scored zero on the mock exam."

The old teacher hadn't directly singled her out in the class to criticize her, probably to save her face. However, later on, the class monitor was asked to bring Qiao Sang to the office, and then her parents were called to the school.

Initially, if it had stopped at that point, maybe nobody would be too interested. After all, Qiao Sang had poor grades, and being criticized in the office wasn't unheard of.

But involving parents was a big deal.

You see, except for fights and violence, the old teacher rarely asked parents to come to the school.

At that time, after school, neither Qiao Sang nor the class monitor said anything. The old teacher didn't say anything either, so there shouldn't have been anyone who knew.

As a result, Qiao Sang asked for leave the next day, and then she skipped class on the third day.

Skipping class at this critical moment was already indicative, and the gossip flames were quickly kindled. It didn't take long for everyone to know the whole story.

Qiao Sang couldn't help but laugh wryly. But she didn't feel anything about it either.

Things in this little territory of the school spread incredibly quickly.

As for scoring zero on the test and having her parents called, although it could be considered twisting the truth, children of her age might feel embarrassed if people found out. However, Qiao Sang didn't have that kind of psychological pressure.

"By the way, have you done the analysis of the Spirit Plants assignment? Let me copy it," Fang Sisi tapped Qiao Sang's arm with her hand.

"I haven't even come, how would I know about any assignment? Besides, as the second-to-last in our class copying from the third-to-last, isn't that embarrassing?" Qiao Sang was somewhat speechless.

"Big Thigh, I won't allow you to say such things about yourself." Fang Sisi reprimanded, then made a pitiful expression, "I thought your mom would come to the school on Friday and bring your assignments. I'm really envious of you people who don't have to do homework."

Qiao Sang: "..."

Ignoring Fang Sisi's playful words, Qiao Sang fell into deep thought.

She seemed to be unaware of the reason her mother had come to the school last time.
