Chapter 14 - I Need a Leave of Absence

Qiao Sang glanced at Dai Shushu for two seconds before smiling, "Yeah, is there something else you want to talk about?"

Dai Shushu's eyes narrowed slightly as she shook her head, "No, that's all."

Qiao Sang turned and returned to the classroom.

Just as she sat down, Fang Sisi leaned over, "What did Dai Shushu say to you? Your face looks terrible."

"Does it look that bad?" Qiao Sang asked.

"Yeah, you've got this stern look, it scared me," Fang Sisi joked.

If there was a mirror, Qiao Sang would have wanted to take a look at herself.

Fang Sisi continued, "So, what did Dai Shushu want from you?"

"Nothing," Qiao Sang picked up her book and started reading again.

Fang Sisi thought of asking more, but seeing Qiao Sang's unwillingness to share, she closed her mouth.

When the morning classes ended, Qiao Sang packed her things and went to the office of the third year class.

"Teacher, I need a leave of absence," Qiao Sang stared at the teacher's thick hair.

The teacher stood up suddenly.

There was another female teacher in the office, and her gaze immediately locked onto Qiao Sang.

The teacher restrained himself, "Do you even know what you're saying? The final exams are just a few days away, and you're asking for leave? I haven't received your self-reflection letter for skipping class last time."

Qiao Sang said earnestly, "Teacher, if you don't give me leave, I'll just skip class. I'll make up the self-reflection letter."

The teacher's temple twitched as he said, "Do your parents know about this?"

Qiao Sang didn't answer.

The teacher took a deep breath, sat down, and spoke gravely, "If you don't want your mom to come to school again, then go back to class. It was a misunderstanding when you skipped class last time. But even if you've had a self-awakening, you can't neglect your studies. The final exams are just a few days away."

Qiao Sang smiled, "My mom was at school last Friday when you were there too."

The teacher paused for a moment, "I had your mom come to school to explain the situation of skipping class."

Qiao Sang tilted her head and asked, "Why did you make my mom leave?"

The teacher was taken aback, his expression complicated. He thought that Qiao Sang's mother had told her. For a moment, he didn't know how to respond.

He shared the office with the homeroom teacher of Class Nine.

On that day, when Dai Shushu from Class Nine and her mother came to school, it happened to coincide with the same time Qiao Sang's mother was there.

Dai Shushu had just been admitted to the Shengshui High School and the Vice Principal came to congratulate her.

The office's attention was on Class Nine.

That's when Qiao Sang's mother explained that her daughter's excitement over her self-awakening led her to forget about requesting leave.

Children might lie, but adults wouldn't follow suit. Naturally, he believed her.

It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, but unexpectedly, everyone's attention turned to them. A question led to an answer, and all of Qiao Sang's secrets were laid bare.

Dai Shushu's mother had ridiculed and taunted, which led to a confrontation between Qiao Sang's mother and her.

Dai Shushu was crying on the side.

As a precious gem of the school, they naturally couldn't stand for Dai Shushu to feeling wronged. The Vice Principal spoke up and asked Qiao Sang's mother to leave.

The teacher thought of himself as a competent educator.

He didn't engage in interpersonal relationships, he focused on his work, and after more than 20 years, he became a homeroom teacher.

Through this time, his initial vigor and confidence faded away, and now he hesitated to stand up for his students' parents against unequal treatment.

However, he also felt he hadn't done anything wrong. He was merely an observer, and there was no need to explain the process to a child.

The teacher paused and said, "I didn't make her leave, I asked her to leave. It was just to let her calm down."

Qiao Sang smiled, "I understand, but this 'asking' made my mom fall sick. You know my situation at home. Only I can take care of my mom."

The teacher's momentum dwindled, "How long do you want to take a leave?"

Qiao Sang replied, "Until my mom gets better."

The teacher hesitated for a moment, then said, "You better come back soon. The final exams are just around the corner."

Qiao Sang nodded and turned to leave.

Watching her back, the teacher, unable to

rest assured, added, "Remember to study well at home. Time is running out for the final exams. When your mom gets better, come back quickly."

As Qiao Sang turned her head to glance at the teacher, she smiled, "Teacher, your wig is crooked."

Teacher: "..."

Female teacher: "..."

...

...

Hanggang Xiang Zhen Beast Battle Club.

"How much does your club charge for a junior training partner for a day?"

"Hello, our training partners are charged per hour. For a junior training partner, it's 1000 League Coins per hour. If you book for a whole day, we can give you a 2% discount." The receptionist smiled as she explained.

The Beast Battle Clubs can provide different training partners according to the clients' requests. As a popular industry in today's society, it has covered both large and small neighborhoods.

In some well-established Beast Battle Clubs, if you have the money, you can even find a training partner who is an S-grade Beast Tamer. However, such clubs are quite rare.

Xiang Zhen Beast Battle Club was the fifth one Qiao Sang had visited.

The reason she had visited so many Beast Battle Clubs was simple.

She didn't have enough money...

Qiao Sang touched her pockets, realizing she had almost nothing left, and with her Fire Tooth Dog in her arms, she walked out in silence.

Feeling somewhat lost, Qiao Sang didn't know where to go for a moment.

Originally, she had a laid-back attitude towards Shengshui High School—passing the special enrollment would be nice, but even if she didn't, she had a backup plan with Sixth Imperial Beast High School.

However, now she had changed her mind and wanted to attend this school.

The special enrollment exam for Shengshui High School was in 10 days. Given her current level, passing the minimum score line for the regular exam was uncertain.

For students ranked second to fifth, they needed to score 50 points higher than the minimum score line to get accepted. Qiao Sang wasn't confident.

In that case, she would need to secure her place by getting the top score in the special enrollment exam.

Having made this decision, she would need to start training her Fire Tooth Dog in advance.

Although the Fire Tooth Dog was a fire-type creature with strong attack power, it was still a cub and lacked battle experience. Her easy victory last time was mainly due to the 2v1 advantage and the opponent's slow reaction.

If she were to aim for the top position in the special enrollment exam, it seemed unlikely.

With only 10 days left, staying at school would be a waste of time. She could study and train the Fire Tooth Dog at the same time.

With her "golden finger," she could significantly improve the Fire Tooth Dog's combat abilities in a short period through battles.

Qiao Sang's plan seemed solid, but she felt lost once she was outside.

Currently, there were numerous pet battles and competitions of various sizes, but they had different requirements. Some competitions required a certain level of the Beast Tamer.

Pet battles were organized to earn viewership and ticket revenue, after all. Most novice Beast Tamers started with only one junior pet, using the same few moves repeatedly, which didn't offer much entertainment value.

When the audience didn't enjoy watching, the organizers naturally wouldn't lose money to host such events.

Qiao Sang checked and found that the next competition in Hanggang City that allowed F-grade Beast Tamers to participate was scheduled for June 30th.

The timing was perfect. By then, all the third-year students would have finished their final exams, and most potential contract-bound Beast Tamers would have made their contracts.

There would be a large group of newly qualified Beast Tamers eager to participate.

And then there were their parents, teachers from their schools, and various friends and family members who could make up the audience base. This would ensure good viewership rates.
